Treating animals with respect and care in science
The Russian Laboratory Animal Specialists Association (Rus-LASA) was founded in 2011 to unite researchers, veterinarians, vivarium managers, animal care staff, and other professionals working with laboratory animals, and to disseminate up-to-date knowledge about laboratory animals and humane methods of working with them in the Russian Federation.
In 2014, Rus-LASA became a member of the Federation of European Laboratory Animal Science Associations (FELASA) and the International Council for Laboratory Animal Science (ICLAS).
Main objectives of Rus-LASA
- Holding scientific and practical conferences and working meetings devoted to the problems of keeping and using laboratory animals
- Assistance in creating commissions on keeping and using laboratory animals in organizations using animals for scientific and educational purposes
- Promotion of scientifically based experimental methods and educational technologies that can replace laboratory animals in research, testing and training, reduce their number and improve work with them (the “3R Principle”)
- Informing the Russian community about new knowledge in the field of use laboratory animals obtained by both foreign and domestic specialists.
- Assistance in the training of researchers, veterinarians, vivarium managers, animal care personnel and other specialists involved in work related to the maintenance and use of laboratory animals according to programs drawn up in accordance with international requirements.
- Interaction with the government apparatus of the Russian Federation in order to improve the legislative framework governing the maintenance and use of laboratory animals.
